Cannon Firing Het Posthuys:

Saturday 5 August 2023 at 11h00

The Muizenberg Historical Conservation Society will be firing its cannon from the stoep of Het Posthuys (opposite the railway station) in commemoration of the Battle of Muizenberg (6 August 1795) at 11h00 Saturday 5 August 2023. We shall be auctioning the privilege of lighting the fuse of our cannon to the highest bidder.

Het Posthuys is the oldest building on the False Bay coast. The VOC built it as a toll house. One of its commanders was Sergeant Muiz who gave his name to the present suburb.

Attendees are welcome to join us for beverages and snacks after the shot. This year, because of the indisposition of our Treasurer, Chris Taylor, there shall not be a talk on the battle itself, but we invite you to visit the museum and to become members of the Society for a mere R50 (R80 for families).

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Kind regards, Glenn Babb, Chairman
